Introduction

SRView is an application for viewing and manipulating three- and four-dimensional images.  It is a component of the Synergy Research Image Processing (SRIP) package that is being developed as a research  tool  for NIAAA/LCS/BEI.  Source code is available to the NIH community.

SRView is actively being developed, with many new features planned.  The current version of SRView is useful for viewing images in three orthogonal views, rotating them interactively in 3 dimensions, manually creating and editing ROIs and midlines, creating  mask images from the ROIs, and manually editing mask images.

Four-dimensional images are sets of three dimensional images at a sequences of time points. SRView currently supports interactive selection of the time point for which to display the 3 spatial dimensions. All operations such as ROI creation and mask editing can be performed at any time point. Image operations, such as image rotation, are automatically performed at all time points in a 4D image. There is a time plotting tool that plots pixel values along the time dimension for the current cursor location.

Here is a short list of some current features and capabilities:

• Handles images with 3-spatial dimensions and a time dimension.
• Automatic readout of image coordinates and values as cursor is moved over the display.
• Has a plotting window and tool for interactive plotting of time vectors any spatial location in an image.
• Supports many image data types including: short, int, long, float, double and complex-float.
• Reads several file formats including: NIAAA, AFNI and DICOM.
• Region-of-interest (ROI) creation and editing.
• Mask image creation and editing.
• Displays images in three orthogonal views with cross-referencing between views.
• Interactive rotation of images in three dimensions and interactive slice selection.
• Embedded Tcl/Tk interpreter for scripting image processing operations.
• Scripts menu for easy user access to scripts.
• Command window giving interactive access to the Tcl interpreter.
• Array window for viewing multiple image slices in time or z-coordinate.
  

The first chapter of this manual, SRView Quick Start, is an introduction to the basic features and user interaction. Subsequent chapters treat special topics and features in detail.
